Fossils Around Town

Join us as we travel around the St. Louis region and explore evidence of past animal life and geologic events. We'll spend the day visiting local sites where you can collect your own fossils and see an ash layer from volcanic eruptions 100 times the size of Mt. St. Helens' eruption! Meet at your location.
Program Length: 3-4 hours

Paleo Peices

Students will dig into the world of paleontology with this custom built paleo-program. Choose four activities from the list to create your group's paleo-experience. All Paleo Pieces programs include a tour of the Science Center's Fossil Prep Lab.

• Dinosaur Camouflage - Investigate what dinos may have looked like. What color do you think a dinosaur was?
• Construct-a-saurus - Piece together a life-sized 3D dinosaur puzzle.
• Name-a-Dino - Create and name a new dinosaur.
• Fossil Types - Learn about the different kinds of fossils.
• Dino Bingo - Test your dino knowledge in this fun matching game activity.
• Fossil Prep Demon - Talk to a preparator working on cleaning and piecing together real dinosaur fossils.
• Paleo Puzzle - A collection of dinosaur puzzles for students to put together.
• Dining with Dinosaurs - Compare herbivores and carnivores.
• Dino or Dino-Not - Discover what separates dinosaurs from over prehistoric creatures.

Paleo Plunge

The past comes alive in this exciting program! Travel back in time with us as we explore prehistoric life. Together, we'll dig into mini excavations, learn about our state fossil and discover the tools and tricks used by real Paleontologists. Program length: 1.5 hour

Practical Paleontology

Paleontology can be puzzling! Dig into this science and piece together the mysteries of the past through hands-on activities. Learn to identify fossils, find out if any dinosaurs could fly and try to piece together a whole dinosaur! Who knows what fun you'll unearth once you dig in. Program length: 1 hour

Vanasaurus Classroom Experience

What does it take to be a paleontologist? Have you ever wondered how fossils are formed? What was life like at the time of the dinosaurs? This facilitated hands-on workshop can be suited to the age and size of your group for a fascinating exploration of paleontology.

The Science OFF Center Team will work with your Scout group, youth serving agency, or other non-formal education group to personalize our programs to meet your needs. We will come to any event!
