Advanced Flight Academy

Modern 21st century personal aircraft have amazing capabilities. The many individual mechanical instruments in the cockpit have been replaced by a couple of computer laptop-style displays. Incredibly precise navigation based on Global Positioning Satellites (located 5% of the way to the moon!) has revolutionized the way we fly. This course, open to participants who have completed Flight Academy, will give you a chance to try radio and satellite navigation, learn how to use the autopilot and experience Instrument Landing System approaches. The capstone experience of this course is a real flight where YOU get to fly (and log flight instruction time) in an actual glass-cockpit plane under the supervision of a Certified Flight Instructor. Camp ends at 12pm Monday - Thursday and 4pm on Friday. Campers may choose to stay with the group for a relaxed afternoon hangout, Monday - Thursday from 1-4pm for $50 weekly.
Cost: $450/$360 for Plus and Max members
This camp is open to students entering 7-12 grades in the fall of 2013.

Advanced Segway Adventure

Did you enjoy your first Segway Camp? This new course promises to have more experience and excitement! Campers will begin by riding the Segway training course to refresh the skills learned in Segway Adventure. The camp will then glide into more riding and fun as campers work to master additional trails in Illinois, head off for more geocaching fun and learn more about how the Segway operates, including the computer programming inside the machine. Campers must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 100-260 pounds. This course is open only to campers who will have completed Segway Adventure. No exceptions.
Cost: $450/$360 for Plus and Max members

Camp Kaboom!

What happens when you take sodium and place it in water? Kaboom! A spectacular, instant combustion of the element will pop, spark and have fire floating on the water. Chemistry is a science that you use everyday. From digesting your food to baking a cake, chemistry is a central part of the world. Join Science Center staff member Andrew McGarrahan as he introduces you to the lab. Beginning with simple safety procedures, this week will slowly build as you experiment with real chemistry. Whether we are playing with real gold or making combustion, this week will get science popping.
Cost: $275/$220 for Plus and Max members

Flight Academy

Get ready to pilot a REAL airplane! Our Flight Academy for teens is back by popular demand. After four days of training on our state-of-the art flight simulators, YOU will take off, fly and land a real airplane under the supervision of a Certified Flight Instructor. How's that for a summer experience you can tell your friends about? Led by our own Senior Director for Energy and Aerospace, Gregg Maryniak, our expert staff will train you on flight simulators used by professional pilots. Just for fun, you'll fly a virtual jet pack through the legs of the St. Louis Arch! Did we mention that on Friday you get to fly a real airplane? What are you waiting for? Camp ends at 12pm Monday - Thursday and 4pm on Friday. Campers may choose to stay with the group for a relaxed afternoon hangout, Monday - Thursday from 1-4pm for $50 weekly.

Activities will become increasingly advanced over the course of the week. Campers will learn how to blow glass, how to add color to glass creations, how to make artwork from fusing glass, how to make animal beads and more! Learn what happens to glass as it heats up and how it's used in today's technology. Campers must wear closed toed shoes each day. Learn about how the machine works by doing your own Segway autopsy. We'll take a three hour ride on the bike trails on the Illinois side of the River. Be the first on your block to receive your very own Science Center Segway Operator's License. Spend the week with members of the Science Center's Segway Team.
