Meet our 2011 Summer Science Blast camp counselors!

Amanda

Amanda is the Public Programs and Day Camps Manager. She first joined the Science Center in August 2000 as a part-time gallery assistant. In May 2007, she joined the Science OFF Center team full time as an instructor. She gets to work with a wide range of audiences from budding toddlers to Segway masters. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys playing with her telescope and exploring the night sky.

Hannah

Hannah is excited for her third year with the Summer Science Blast. This year, she will be the on-site camp supervisor. She recently returned from seven months in France as an English teaching assistant in primary schools. She studied French and Environmental Studies at Truman State University. When she’s not at camp, she enjoys traveling, cooking and singing.

Anna

Anna is back for her fourth year with Summer Science Blast! When she's not at camp, she studies Latin and Greek at the University of Cincinnati. In her free time, she's also a volunteer scuba diver in the manatee tank at the Cincinnati Zoo. Anna loves learning languages and telling stories!

Ashley

Ashley is a graduate of Culver-Stockton College with a degree in Art Education. She is a mother of three boys, all under the age of 2. This is her fifth year teaching summer camp. During the school year, she is a teacher’s assistant for the Special School District.

Dan

Dan is a graduate from Truman State University with a degree in biology and chemistry. He will be starting his Ph.D. in molecular biology this fall at Kansas State and is very excited to spend his summer doing what he loves: teaching science! He has served as a teaching assistant in classes and has worked with kids of all ages through various group sponsored activities. Dan enjoys playing around with graphic design software, running and laser tagging with his friends.

Elizabeth

This is Elizabeth's second year with Summer Science Blast. She graduated in December 2009 from SEMO with a degree in Elementary Education. She worked as a math tutor at the Webster Grove School District last school year, and will start as a library aide at an elementary school this fall. She enjoys fencing.

Emily

Emily just graduated from SEMO with an education degree. She is very excited to be a part of the camps this summer and can't wait to do the exciting things that are planned. She’s going to bust open electronics with Techno Babble, build some wacky tools in Goldberg’s Gizmos, and find answers to some of your biggest questions in Mythbusting! She is also excited to go on the Great River Ramble and play with a bunch of cool things at camp in Alhambra, Illinois! This summer is going to be a BLAST! See you soon!

Hillary

Hilary is a graduate from Missouri State University with a degree in Middle School Education emphasizing in Science and Social Studies. She loves playing ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, and hiking in her spare time. She is very excited to be working at Summer Blast and looks forward to working with our awesome campers!

Kat

Kat is the Gallery Lead for the Environment and Ecology Gallery at the Saint Louis Science Center. She is excited to lead the Paleo Plunge camp this year.

Lucas

Lucas Miller is a senior at the University of Missouri in Columbia pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in physics. This is his first summer at the Saint Louis Science Center’s Summer Science Blast Camp. When he is not doing science, he spends his free time hanging with family and friends, working out, singing, going to rock concerts, reading books, playing video games and the list goes on.

Melissa

Melissa is very excited to join the summer camp staff this summer. She is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University with a Master degree in Education and of SIUE with a degree in Special Education. She enjoys spending time with her two children in her spare time, doing scouting activities and exploring the Saint Louis museums.

Natalie

This is Natalie’s second year with the Science Center. She graduated last year from the University of Missouri Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Science Education. Natalie has done a variety of things with us including Scout Programs, Holidazed Camps, Segway lessons and Homeschool Days. When she’s not with us at the Science Center she can be found teaching 10th Grade Bio and 12th grade Anatomy and Physiology in North St. Louis. She is very excited to be a part of Summer Science Blast again and can’t wait to get started!

Stephanie C.

Stephanie is excited for her first summer at the Summer Science Blast camp. She just graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Biology and Global Health. In September, she will be getting married and moving to Africa to run a non-profit organization for malnourished children.

Stephanie D.

Stephanie is a graduate from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where she majored in Earth Systems and Environmental Studies. She worked as a Swimming Lessons Instructor for seven years and tutored middle-school English. During her time spent studying at U of I she studied abroad in both India and the Turks in Caicos Islands where she learned about the various ways of life and environmental conservation. She enjoys reading, jumping on trampolines and playing with her lovable cat, Jake.
